Kenny Hill Racing Debut At Brands Hatch

The Easter holiday saw the newly formed Superstock 1000 team of Kenny Hill Racing make their first foray into the world's most competitive domestic championship. It was first time out for the team, first time out with the brand new R1 Yamaha and first time out for rider Tom Clegg with the team and on the bike! A lot to contend with for everyone! Team owner Steve Beard had this to say after the team had arrived at the circuit, 'This is only an extra test for us, we have no knowledge of the bike and all the team are new to each other, so I do not expect anything but good information and for the new team to gel."

The team did a great job throughout the weekend, with Tom going faster each and every time out on the bike. Everything went well; the only problem that could not be fixed was the front forks, which will be modified to top spec for the Oulton round. The potential of the bike and rider was shown briefly in the cold and wet ten minute warm up on race morning, where the Kenny Hill rider, Tom Clegg finished the treacherously slippy session in a very creditable 12th place, finishing in front of outright TT lap record holder John McGuiness. The cold wet conditions helped to stop the forks overheating and allowed Tom's talent to show through.

Tom was hampered throughout the 22 lap race, which was in dry, warmer conditions, by the front end of the Yamaha not giving him any confidence round the very tight, fast Brands Hatch Indy circuit. Owner Steve Beard said after the race, "Tom has done Kenny Hill Racing proud this weekend. He has improved every time out and has finished eight places higher than his grid slot. He has given the team invaluable information and we will be many times stronger for Oulton Park. The new Yamaha is a fantastic bike; we will have the mods done by the Bank Holiday event, with a little testing before the Oulton race".

So there is Kenny Hill Racing's first outing, a good start with much, much more to come from rider Tom Clegg and Kenny Hill Racing.
