3rd Round Donington Park 23rd - 25th May 2009

Kenny Hill Racing - Round 3 Donington Park

For the third round of the National Superstock 1000 series, the Kenny Hill Racing team arrived at the Derbyshire circuit of Donington Park already unsure whether the team's rider Tom Clegg would be fit enough to ride the bike! The team had gone to the previous weekends Bemsee race at Cadwell Park, where in torrential rain, Tom slid off on an oil patch, sustaining two broken ribs! Tom was determined to have a go at racing, making a superhuman effort in getting the bike onto the grid during the two very competitive and fast qualifying sessions. Tom had to pull into the pits to regain his breath due to being hit in the broken ribs by the fuel tank with the front wheel rearing up exiting the Donington corners.

When race morning appeared Tom was so sore and stiff that the team owner Steve Beard withdrew him from the race. Steve said after making the decision not to compete “Tom has made a massive effort to qualify with his chest muscles being weak and also the pain from broken ribs, so to avoid making his injuries any worse I have decided to rest Thomas from this meeting and also the next round at Thruxton so that he will be OK for the Snetterton round in June".

After the decision to withdraw from the event Tom Clegg said, "I am gutted at missing this and the next meeting, it will mean I will be fully fit for Snetterton".
